Is there ever enough punishment for murder?

This is a response to Judge Siraj Desai’s ruling that Najwa should get 28 years for husband’s murder, Mail & Guardian Online reported today.

I find this ruling hard to justify.

How do we as society measure one’s unlawful act and assign a punishment to it?

It was indicated in Najwa’s docket that: “… Petersen were her [Najwa] hired hitmen, Abdoer Emjedi, Waheed Hassien and Jefferson Snyders. Petersen hired them to carry out the contract killing.

Is this enough for committing murder and what enough or justifiable punishment is there for killing another human being?
