Internet makes it easy for everyone who wants information on any subject or person to get it more easily. However, because of so much information available on that person or subject – it’s very important for one to simulate such information and look into the more useful and user-friendly information.
Filling vacant position is one of the hardest if not difficult work that Human Resource department faces in many organizations. Recruitment is a very tough and time-consuming task.
Beside more time, it requires many resources, especially financial resource. This is a result of having to find the right people who will help organizations identify the relevant and right competency to achieve particular organizational objective.
Because of the changes in the environment, organizations are now moving from traditional ways of recruiting and advertising. They are now moving to the direction whereby most of them outsource recruitment instead of doing it themselves. Not only that but – some do advertise on recruiting agencies or career web site, e.g. http://www.careerjunction.co.za/, http://www.careers24.com/, http://www.careerportal.com/, etc.
These web sites allows employers to register positions that are available and vacant at their organizations that should be filled or occupied within a specified period of time. Job seekers also can register their profiles on these sites. Working experience and qualifications are some the details which job seekers would have to include in their profiles so that respective employers can easily match their profiles with those of existing positions in different organizations. This service of recruitment and placement is often outsourced to executive search companies and recruiting companies that specialize in recruitment and placement – either temporary or permanent.
Last week Tuesday I was fortunate to get a call from two people. The first one asked “what job opportunities are you looking for” while the other said “I came across you profile on career junction. We have vacant position and just wanted to know if you are interested?”
This indicated that not only one employer’s registered with these career web site – but many especially in South Africa decided to register their vacant positions on these site as their attract more job seekers than traditional mediums or sources of advertising, e.g. newspapers.
After the second person had told me all about the position and how much it paid and the benefits that it had – I immediately set up an appointment for an interview. The company’s situated in Pretoria. I am scheduled for an interview next week on Friday, 07 December 2007.
I tried to research much about the company as I possible could, unfortunately I could not find anything worth saying if ever asked – in the interview, except that it’s a recruitment company that specializes in placing both temporary and permanent positions – especially in the retail industry.
It’s however, the first employer to call me for an interview after having seen my profile online. It’s now been two years since I registered my profile on Career Junction.
